Is there any harm in a child keeping their tennis shoes and socks on after school?

My 8 year old son sometimes leaves his shoes on until he goes to bed a night. He says he likes wearing them. Is there any harm in him having his shoes on 12 to 14 hours a day? We buy him new shoes every three months or so and his feet never really smell bad when he takes them off. What do your children do?
Yes we make him wipe his feet and check the shoes for dirt/mud/ect

No except for the fact that tennis shoes will make your carpet and floors dirty. I would make him take them off not because I am worried about his feet but that I am not about to clean up his trail of dirt left by those shoes.

No harm lots of kids do that around here including mine. Like others said at least you know his feet are protected. Also if you need to leave the house, having the shoes on will make leaving much quicker. You can also use it as an excuse to get him to do something that needs to be done outside or in the garage, “Honey you have your shoes on already, can you take the trash out?” Just kidding about the last part, really though no harm as long as they fit properly.

Athletes feet and fungus could be a problem.

nothing wrong with it at all unless the shoes were to small for him but if your buying new shoes every 3 months that shouldn’t be a problem… keeping shoes on probably actually helps him instead of hurting him. if he’s comfortable than let him go

I used to do the same thing when I was a kid. I wore my sneakers a good 12hrs every day (from school to play time up until dinner time).

I am now a fully grown adult, never had any feet problems at all. No athlete’s foot ever or anything.

Weirdo…probably no harm though, maybe only mentally.

  9. Rach Says:

Its fine as long as the shoes have good ventilation and air holes. Shoes do help to cushion the foot so he isnt really doing any harm, although make sure he gives them a good scrub in the shower at night.

i dont think theres any real harm in it. it might cause some foot odor or calluses later on, in which case he should keep his feet clean. it might also cause your floors in the house to be a little more dirty cuz he’ll be running around school all day and when he comes home he’ll be bringing the dirt in with him.

No, it’s not a problem unless you see sores on his feet or they begin to smell. Your body naturally shows you signs of abuse if you take care of it wrong, so if you see nothing, usually (but not always) it should be fine.

well im not a parent but a child who does the same. i dont think it really has any harm, but when he gets to be like 11 or 12 or somewhere around there and he does that, his feet are going to start to smell. once you notice that problem then you should probably get him some shoe spray or something to keep the odor under control, and make him take his shoes off after school. I did the same thing a few years ago and now my brother is doin it.. its not a fun thing to go through but it happens to just bout everyone. anyways i hope i helped =)

i wear mine constantly. it has never hurt me.

  14. Madi Says:

No, I don’t believe this will cause any problems. It’s just his preference to keep them on. If his feet start growing rapidly and are confined by the shoes, then yes, I would say it could turn into a problem. But if you buy him new shoes as needed and there is no athlete’s foot, or other fungi or odor resulting, I wouldn’t worry about it at all. Maybe get him some slippers or something though, so that he’ll have something comfier to change into after playing all day at school ;P

comin from a child like me. it dosent really matter. i do the same cause wen u stubb ur toe, it dosent hurt.

  16. staindfan509 Says:

Dude, I leave my shoes on like 24/7 lol..

    It’s normal..
    Don’t be so paranoid

There are some links to bringing environmental toxins into the house. I know one thing that came up when all those lead recalls were happening, was stories on how some neighborhoods were so bad with lead in the environment they suggested kids take their shoes off when coming in the home. Will search for the links.

No, why would there be an issue? The only problem would be that it could provide a haven for Athlete’s Foot or some other fungus, but if he washes them well just leave it alone.

Oh, if the world had your problems man!

    Get a life.

  20. jupyter_flew Says:

No, there’s nothing wrong with it. Don’t be such a drama queen. If anything, it helps support his feet for proper growth and development. There are bigger things in the world to worry about than how long you should or shouldn’t wear shoes.

  21. roxie656 Says:

no i used 2 do it all the time and it dosent cause harm but if ur concerned check his shoe laces cuz if there 2 tight he might get blood blisters

  22. Kay G Says:

wearing shoes in the house may even prevent injury to feet – stubbed toes that might get broken or things falling on them. I let my kids decide if they want their shoes on or not as long as it isn’t on my coffee table.
